Purpose.   This national bulletin solicits reviews and comments on proposed changes to 430 NSSH Part 648, “Digital Soil Mapping - Raster Products.”  
 
Expiration Date.   December 31, 2022  
 
Background.   Revisions to 430 NSSH Part 648 include:
• Updating 648.0A, “Definition,” and 648.0B, “Purpose” to clarify what digital soil mapping is and how it is used
• Changing 648.0C from “Raster Soil Survey Strategies to “Digital Soil Mapping Strategies
• Expanding the information provided in 648.0D, “Procedure,” and 648.0E, “Mapping Data Development” sections
• Updating 648.0F, “Responsibilities,” to clarify the responsibilities of the National Soil Survey Center and the regional, state, and MLRA soil survey offices
• Updating the metadata requirements in 648.0G, “Metadata”
• Revising 648.1, “Accuracy and Uncertainty,” to include definitions, usage, and suggested methods of accuracy and uncertainty
• Changing 648.2 from “References” to “Levels of Raster Soil Survey”
• Adding 648.3, “References”
• Updating 648.12, “Raster Soil Survey Areas,” to change soil survey areas to state abbreviations
• Changing 648.13 from “Metadata” to “Digital Soil Mapping Project – Final Correlation Document Example”
• Changing Part 648.14 from “References” to “Metadata”
• Adding Part 648.15, “References”
