National Bulletin: 360-22-13
Date: September 16, 2022
Subject: PER - 2023 NRCS Engineer of the Year Award Nominations

Action Required By: October 14, 2022

Purpose.   This national bulletin requests nominations of NRCS engineers for the 2023 NRCS Engineer of the Year Award.

Expiration Date.   December 31, 2023

Background.

Each year, the Conservation Engineering Division (CED) assembles a panel to select the NRCS Engineer of the Year. This honor is awarded to an engineer who exemplifies professionalism and dedication to public service and who has contributed to the NRCS mission through a noteworthy achievement. Selection is a significant acknowledgement of the engineer’s work and is also an honor to the State, area, or center in which the engineer serves.

After the panel selects the NRCS Engineer of the Year, CED nominates that individual for the Federal Engineer of the Year Award (FEYA). The Professional Engineers in Government (PEG), an interest group within the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), sponsors the FEYA, which recognizes Federal engineers for their engineering achievements, continuing education, professional and technical society activities, other awards and honors, and civic and humanitarian activities.

Explanation.

To nominate an engineer within your span of supervision for this award, use the attached FEYA Application (attachment A). Do not send the application form to NSPE. CED sends the FEYA application for the selected NRCS Engineer of the Year to NSPE for consideration as Federal Engineer of the Year.

Return the completed nomination form to Terri Ruch, at terri.ruch@usda.gov, by close of business Friday, October 14, 2022, along with both a portrait photo of the nominee and a photo of the nominee at work. CED will not accept late applications.

For information on developing strong applications and completing the nomination form, see “Hints for Developing an NRCS Engineer of the Year Nomination (2023)” (attachment B).

NSPE is planning an in-person award ceremony on Thursday, February 24, 2023, at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. Provided there are no travel restrictions, the NRCS Engineer of the Year, their spouse or significant other, and supervisor will attend the FEYA award ceremony.
