Purpose.   To announce the 2022 State Conservation Engineers’ and Geologists’ Operations Meeting to be held in-person in Lincoln, Nebraska, August 15-19, 2022, and to request travel information from attendees.  
 
Expiration Date.   September 30, 2022 
 
Background.   The 2022 State Conservation Engineers’ and Geologists’ Operations Meeting provides a forum for engineering leaders from across the country to meet in-person to discuss a variety of topics and issues related to engineering and geology within NRCS including:

·     Engineering, geology, and agriculture hot topics

·     New staffing, recruitment, and retention initiatives

·     Latest technical tools and technology, such as surveying quality levels, state of the art surveying instruments, and engineering tools, including:

a.    Engineering Field Tools/Engineering Planning, Analysis, and Design Suite (NRCS EPAD)

b.    GeoObserver and DamWatch

c.    Conservation Desktop (CD), Conservation Assessment Ranking Tool (CART)

d.    Conservation Practice Documents-Document Management System (CPD-DMS)

·     Updates to the National Engineering Manual (NEM), National Engineering Handbook (NEH), and Field Office Technical Guide (FOTG)

·     Engineering Job Approval Authority (EJAA)

·     Energy topics

·     New Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Landscape Architects (NPEGLA)

·     Non-NRCS technical assistance such as:

a.    indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ’s)

b.    technical service providers (TSP’s)

c.    Agriculture Conservation Experienced Services (ACES)

d.    Earth Team

·     Quality Control and Quality Assurance

·     Professional development for state, regional and national engineering and geology staff

·     Watershed Program and Farm Bill Programs, including new approaches to Watershed Scale Projects

·     Chief’s priorities

 

Optional tours to the National Soil Mechanics Laboratory and the National Soil Survey Center on Monday, August 15, 2022, and a field trip to select Nebraska projects on Thursday, August 18, 2022, will be available.

NHQ, Center, Engineering Business Area Advisory Group representatives, and others will be invited to participate, make presentations, or share information as appropriate.

Continuing Education credits will be available to participants for their participation. 
 
Explanation.   Each attendee’s organizational unit is responsible for travel expenses (airfare or other travel mode, lodging and per diem).

NRCS must submit a single request in the USDA Conference Management System to obtain the necessary in-person meeting approval. To obtain conference approvals for NRCS employees interested in attending this conference in-person, State Conservationists, Center Directors, Pacific Islands and Caribbean Area Directors, and NHQ Division Directors must complete Attachment A, “Meeting Calculation Worksheet SCE and Geologist 2022 Meeting” and return it to Arthur Ramthun by June 10, 2022.

There is no virtual attendance option.
