Purpose.   To announce the 2011 National Hispanic Heritage Month Poster Contest winner.

Background.   National Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15 to October 15.  "Many Backgrounds, Many Stories...One American Spirit” is the theme of this year’s celebration.  The annual event highlights past and present contributions by U.S. Hispanics who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico, and the Spanish-speaking nations of Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.      
 
Explanation.    We are pleased to announce that Jennifer Van Eps, Visual Information Specialist in Spokane, WA, has been awarded first place for her 2011 National Hispanic Heritage Month poster entry.  Ms. Van Eps’ poster was selected first place by a panel of judges from among 34 entries.  As the 2011 National Hispanic Heritage Month Poster Contest winner, Ms. Van Eps will receive a $300 spot award for her efforts and her entry will serve as the agency’s official poster for 2011 National Hispanic Heritage Month activities.  The poster will be distributed electronically through this national bulletin and the States’ Hispanic Emphasis Program managers.
